Registration Questions

Why does MiDATA require my City/Town and State/Province during registration?

The City/Town and State/Province fields of registration are required to in order to validate that the account being created is actually a real person and for eligibility of certain other key features of our platform.

The account holder’s City/Town and State/Province will also need to be manually validated (in future) as part of the process to validate the account holder’s payment details for any earnings payments to be disbursed to them.

Why does MiDATA require my 'Preferred Gender for Ads' during registration?

MiDATA does not require your preferred gender specifically for account registration, which is why we offer the selection-option of “Prefer not to respond” and also allow you to set this field to totally private (“Only Me”) viewability.

This field is “required” in the registration process in order for us to create the best experience of ad targetting possible for you as a member. We are very conscientious of people’s sensitivity toward this issue so we want to be able to provide the ability to indicate one’s preference in this matter right up front.

Setting this also makes it easier to capitalize on your data’s value by being more specific about yourself. It will provide much more relevant and interesting advertising choices for you to be a part of and interact with, without being mis-targetted or subject to ads they may offend you.

How did MiDATA determine the genders in the 'Preferred Gender for Ads' field of registration?

This is something we wanted to get right in respect of all people. We determined the genders available in the selections for the Gender Identity field of the account registration using the example given by Devon Price, a “Nonbinary Social Psychologist & Writer in Chicago”, in her article titled “Bad Gender Measures & How to Avoid Them – A guide by a nonbinary psychologist.”

Account Questions

Why am I already friends with some people?

If your friend on another social network joins MiDATA and you have connected your account for that social network on MiDATA, you will automatically be friends on MiDATA as well. To “unfriend” any member of MiDATA on MiDATA, just visit your friends list and click “Cancel Friendship” beside their name.

Why does MiDATA ask for my Gender Pronouns in my Personal Information?

MiDATA provides a field for “Gender Pronouns” in the “Personal & Family” area of your Profile in order to allow you to express that choice to only your friends on MiDATA, to other members of MiDATA, to advertisers, or to the public in general.

This field is not mandatory and we also allow you to set this field to totally private (“Only Me”) viewability.

This field will also provide much more relevant and interesting advertising choices for you to be a part of and interact with, without being mis-targetted or subject to offensive ads or misused personal pronouns by advertisers.

MiDATA used the pronouns that were suggested and available at the LGBTQIA Resource Center of UC Davis.
